PELA MARE HOTEL

LOCATION

The beach resort of Agia Pelagia, where the Pela Mare hotel complex is located, is one of the most beautiful and popular destinations in the municipality of Malevizi, Crete, combining unparalleled natural beauty, organized facilities, and a wonderful beach, while it is an ideal starting point for exploring the island’s northern coastline and with important sights, such as Heraklion [20 km], Knossos [23 km], Fodele and the Museum of El Greco [10.7 km], Phaistos [66 km], Archaeological site of Ancient Eleftherna and many more.

The picturesque village has around 500 permanent residents and is built amphitheatrically, offering incredible sea views with fishing boats, Souda Bay, and the surrounding plain.

Its history is lost in the depths of the centuries, around 2000 BC, when in its place was Ancient Apollonia or Panormos, a Hellenistic city-state, an important port that maintained trade relations with the inhabitants of Knossos, Phaistos, and the Cyclades.

Its significant development is proved by archaeological findings of the Middle Minoan and Roman period that came to light after excavations that began in 1971 and certified the existence of the University, Prytaneion-Andreion [4th century], fortresses, towers, port facilities & water tanks. During your acquaintance with the area, you can reach the Evresi Cave, north of the beach, where the icon of Agia Pelagia was discovered, and the Holy Temple of Agia Pelagia, one of the most important in Venetian times.

The pole of attraction, of course, is the sandy beach with the beautiful crystal clear waters. The main beach of Agia Pelagia is located south of the Souda Peninsula and has coarse sand and turquoise, deep waters. The beach, a thin strip of sand that has been constantly awarded the Blue Flag from 2014 until today, is very organized, with umbrellas and sunbeds, while, as the place is windless, it is ideal for water sports, pedal boating, and swimming with a mask. In the beach restaurants, you will enjoy Cretan delicacies and raki by the sea; there are also several beach bars for cocktails and music. At the same time, you will find many local shops, where you will have opportunities to buy souvenirs, jewelry & local products.

Within a radius of less than 10 km from Agia Pelagia, you can enjoy beautiful beaches in picturesque coves, with crystal clear sandy beaches and crystal clear waters, some crowded, some more secluded. Those who want organized sports, umbrellas and sunbeds, head to Lygaria, Made, Ammoudara, Kladissos, Psaromoura, while less organized are the Mononaftis [crystal clear waters, fine sand] and the beach with a small bay, next to Lygaria.
